Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

powellriverrentals.ca is operated by Powell River Rentals (“we”, “us”) in Powell River, British Columbia. We are responsible for personal information under our control and follow British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). 2. What we collect

If you're browsing rentals, you don't need an account and we don't collect anything that identifies you.

If you sign up for rental alerts, we collect your email address and the search preferences you choose (city, bedrooms, maximum rent, pets).

If you message a landlord using the form on a listing, we pass what you enter (your name, email, phone, move-in date, household size, pets and message) straight to that landlord by email, so they can reply to you. We don't store it in our database or use it for anything else. Our email provider keeps standard delivery records for a limited time.

If you apply for a rental, you do so through the landlord's own application form, which goes to the landlord, not to us. The landlord's handling of your application is governed by their own privacy practices and form provider.

If you're a landlord with an account, we collect:

• your email address and password (passwords are stored only as a secure one-way hash);
• the business profile you choose to publish, such as your name, logo, bio, and public contact email or phone;
• property and listing details, including photos, rent, and property addresses. Full street addresses are used to organize your properties and are not shown on public listing pages unless you include them in your own listing text;
• a record of when you accepted these policies.

Technical information. Our hosting providers automatically record basic request data such as IP address, browser type and pages requested, which is used for security and to keep the site running. Landlord accounts use essential cookies to keep you signed in. We use no advertising, analytics or cross-site tracking cookies.

3. How we use it

• to publish landlords' listings and public pages;
• to email alert subscribers when a matching rental is listed;
• to operate landlord accounts, including sign-in, account and security emails;
• to respond when you contact us;
• to protect the site against fraud, spam and abuse, and to meet legal obligations.

We don't use your information for any other purpose without asking you first.

4. Our sponsor

This site is sponsored by Sydney Young, a local mortgage professional. We do not share landlords' or renters' information with our sponsor, and nobody is contacted about financing because they use this site. If you'd like to talk about financing, you're welcome to reach out to our sponsor directly.

Renters' information is never used for mortgage or any other marketing. Alert subscribers receive rental alerts and nothing else.

5. Who we share it with

We share personal information only as needed to run the site:

• Public listings: information a landlord publishes, such as listing details, photos and public contact info, is visible to anyone;
• Service providers who host and operate the site on our behalf: Supabase (database, sign-in and file storage), Vercel (website hosting) and Resend (email delivery). They may only use the information to provide their services to us;
• When the law requires it, for example in response to a valid court order.

Storage outside Canada. Our service providers store and process information on servers in the United States, where it may be accessible to authorities under US law. By using the site, you acknowledge this.

6. How long we keep it

• Alert subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe using the link in any alert email, which deletes them immediately.
• Landlord accounts and their content are kept until the account is deleted. Email us to delete your account; we'll do so within 30 days.
• Hosting and email-delivery logs are kept for a limited time under our providers' standard retention periods.

7. How we protect it

We use industry-standard safeguards: encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and database access rules that restrict each landlord to their own records. No system is perfectly secure, but we limit what we collect so there is as little as possible to protect. If a breach creates a real risk of significant harm, we'll notify affected people and regulators as the law requires.

8. Your choices and rights

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or withdraw consent you've given, subject to legal limits. Email support@powellriverrentals.ca and we'll respond within 30 days. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.

9. Children

The site is intended for adults. Landlord accounts are for people aged 19 or older, and we don't knowingly collect information from children.

10. Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use information you've already given us, we'll notify you and, where required, ask for your consent first. See also our Terms of Service.
